Aleks Susak FW’17/18
September and October are very exciting months for fashion in Toronto because Toronto Men’s and Women’s Fashion Weeks are taking place. I had the pleasure of being invited to the Aleks Susak fashion show last week at the Windsor Arms Hotel. I have always wanted to visit the Windsor Arms Hotel especially for a super posh high tea session with my girls. The hotel was very classy and regal especially in the Courtyard Cafe where the runway was being held was absolutely stunning.
I viewed some of Aleks’ work on her Instagram and I really liked how the clothing looked as if someone had painted artwork onto the garments, so I was really happy to see some of those same intricacies displayed at her fashion show. I was a little confused at some of the choices of the outfits that were chosen due to the fact that it is supposed to be a showcase for Fall/Winter pieces which was portrayed with velvet and other heavier fabrics but I saw some flowy floral dresses and blouses that I thought would be more appropriate for a Spring/Summer collection.
It was really interesting to see a lot of pieces resembling the Victorian Era with puffed sleeves and under-bust vests as well as taking elements from the Matador culture with the use of a cape and high-waisted pants. I enjoyed viewing the various long flowy dresses that were detailed with floral prints, it made the models look as if they were flowers blowing in the wind as the garments glided up and down the runway. All in all, this was a very put together collection of different eras and cultures and I can’t wait to see what Aleks comes up with next!
